Measuring Project Performance through Task Burn-down Chart

Task burn-down chart is a favorite way to gain visibility into a project’s performance and status. Such a chart shows relationships between the work done and the work remaining. The benefit of using it is that project managers can understand how much work remains on their projects and whether the projects hit the deadlines.

The graph allows measuring project performance in terms of time and tasks. The vertical axis of the chart shows the work remaining; the horizontal axis measures the time scheduled for overall project work. The progress line depicts the time actually spent and the work actually done. Project managers use this line to:

  • Understand what tasks are completed for now
  • Forecast future project performance

Milestones on the graph let track work progress and figure out if project-critical activities are accomplished. Milestones explore the difference between planned performance and actual performance. If task burn-down chart shows that milestones are reached, then most likely the project is actually performed as planned. Besides, status of project milestones helps understand whether project tasks are performed by their deadlines.

CentriQS Task Estimation Solution

Task estimation is "must-have" of effective time tracking solution. CentriQS offers an easy way to estimate task duration. Users can either enter time required for task execution (if task has no sub-tasks) or break tasks down into subtasks, and then estimated duration of parent task will be automatically calculated as total of subtasks estimates.
