Task Completion Issues: the most 'popular' ones and how to avoid them

The worst difficulty is when the results of a task appear quite doubtful, so process of approving them to managers, customers, owners, etc becomes a stressful activity. This kind of situation usually occurs when task pre-planning activities were approached not thoroughly enough, so a lot of “blank spots” in the plan result into stress. Let’s consider some reasons usually generating problems on task completion:

  • Task completion criteria hasn’t been stated precisely enough prior to doing the work, so now there is an argue with task owner about the task scope (performer’s vision of how it is supposed to be against task owner’s expectations);
  • Task requirements (results, objectives, quality) haven’t been accurately discussed, agreed and documented (contracted) properly, so now the task owner complains about these matters;
  • Due to poor workflow organization and lack of self discipline, task performers have seriously failed, missed or ignored accomplishing some details or sub-tasks, so the task owner is justly dissatisfied;

The solution to avoid these problems includes:

  1. To pay proper attention to questions of pre-task preparations and planning;
  2. Not hesitating to ask for help from the task owner prior any problems appear;
  3. Using good task management software, like VIP Task Manager that is created to support project and time management practice.

To  control task completion in the team – do the following:

  • start your project planning software;
  • set a suitable layout of task groups;
  • set project timeline and target dates for all tasks;
  • assign tasks to performers and plan these tasks in terms of their costs, priorities, objectives, etc;
  • control project execution in real-time regime;
