Process Activity is an activity that belongs to a particular process. It defines the smallest measurable amount of work to be performed to convert some portion of process inputs into desired outputs. All activities included in the same process create a definition of work to be performed by the process.
Each activity in a process has some characteristics that define activity type and nature. These characteristics are:
- Measurable duration
- Logic relationship to other activities in the same process
- Resources that are consumed as much as the activity switches between performance statuses
- Costs that define an amount of money required to do the activity
It is the matter of process activity analysis to define and measure all these characteristics for a particular activity. The analysis focuses on researching and examining each activity involved in a process to determine what time, resources, and money are required to do the process and how all the resources will be allocated between all process activities. It results in creating a process activity chart that shows a scheduled breakdown of activities organized by allocated resources and budgeted funds.
