What is Process Interoperability

Process Interoperability is a term to characterize an ability of diverse business processes to work cooperatively, to inter-operate by merging their functionality at certain shared elements and points. Usually this term is referred to a feature of diverse (allocated) IT business systems which are build utilizing innovative technologies, telecommunications, and computing facilities. The main principle underlying a conception of process interoperability stands for possibility of a business process to be initiated and completed at any point worldwide with a help of modern technology (regardless of the types of hardware and software used to automate it). Today, interoperability of the processes can be mainly reached within a sole enterprise using a business process automation system combining a set of modules with different functionalities, supporting capabilities for instant addressing of processes to each other. The main benefits and traits of process interoperability are the following:

  • Aspiration to a higher utility of the systems used in automation of business processes: therefore a better level of security is possible (no gaps between proprietary software systems) and less errors;
  • Enables management focusing on business processes rather than on the means and tools required to operate them;
