What is Project Type



 
 

Project Type is one of the root characteristics of a project, which points its nature. Usually project type is a high-level definition of a project that helps to identify methodologies to be suitable, objects and resources to be involved into the project, and nature of products to be generated by this project. When an organization operates a conception of project type, this may indicate that this organization possesses different templates for different project types – these templates package suitable elements and tools to plan, manage, and control every conventional type of projects. Projects are classified by the following categories (the major ones): 

  • Construction (production) projects: produce buildings, vehicles, equipment or any other tangible objects used in business or private life; 
  • Research projects: produce knowledge – complex activities referring to creation of innovations, to analysis, modelling, intelligence, etc;
  • Organizational change/Reengineering projects: produce changes in design and organization of existing entities, processes and products;
  • Software development: produces computer programs to operate data, electronics and machinery;
  • Procurement projects: produce new business relationships and contracts between customers & suppliers, such as supply tenders and outsourcing of services/projects;
  • Business development (implementation) projects: produce new working and business processes, as well as improvement of existing processes (whether in an extensive or intensive manner);
