What is Task Order?



 
 

Task Order is a formal supplementing document that specifies additional liabilities and obligations of a contractor and elaborates a statement of work (SOW), under rules of a task type contract. It is a kind of contract specifications to formulate a contractual description of specific tasks and services the contractor is obligated to fulfill, along with the amount of jobs determined by the SOW.

As a contractual document, task order needs to be designed with great care because it defines job specifications of an agreement. There are several steps for designing the document. These steps are:

  • Define scope of work. First, the purpose of and minimal requirements to additional jobs or services to be fulfilled by a contactor are identified.
  • List Tasks. Next, a detailed list of tasks with dependencies and priorities is created to show the contractor what exactly should be done.
  • Identify Inputs and Outputs. Now, there’s a need to determine an amount and type of resources required for doing the tasks. Also it is needed to define deliverables or results to be produced by every task.
  • Set Performance Criteria. Finally, a list of performance criteria is designed to specify how the contractor needs to do the work in terms of quality, quantity, time and appearance.
