Take to task – idiomatic meaning vs. project management meaning


Probably you have ever heard the expression “take to task”. If to speak about this sentence as take to task idiom, it has one meaning, and if consider it in terms of project management – it has another meaning (which probably is not so far from the first one). Idiomatic take to task definition says that when you take someone to task this means you criticize him severely or angrily for something he has done. Project management definition of taking to task can be the following: you are assigned to some objectives to achieve, however the way of doing this work is indistinct yet, so you are supposed to take these objectives to task, or in other words you should elaborate a plan on how to do the actual work, how you can attain these goals through feasible actions, and then actually jump into real performance to deliver results. This is what does take to task mean in terms of project management and in terms of daily language.
