Task ownership – is one of the key elements of motivating employees, because it ensures accountability and makes certain team member responsible for completing work. There are some rules around correct way of setting task ownership: first, regardless of the number of people doing work on a task, each task should have only one key responsible person on it, and second, regardless of who is actually doing the work, the task should always belong to an active member of the team. Basically the task ownership matrix may have appearance of a table where 1st column is for the name of task owner and the next columns are for ID’s of the tasks, so you get the list of task owners where each name is listed once, but it can be related to multiple tasks recorded next to it. Many software products like MS Outlook have ownership as one of the essential task attributes, for example MS Outlook task owner can be set when you work in collaborative regime of Microsoft Exchange.
VIP Task Manager is real-time groupware that doesn’t need any additional means for working in collaborative mode and facilitates planning and controlling projects through using different adjustable modes (calendar, task tree, to-do list). This program automatically sets task ownership when you create a task, but due to the importance of this attribute you cannot change task owner or set several task owners to one task, instead of this you can set multiple supervisors to task, but the owner is always only one.
