The executing phase of any project includes coordination of people and other resources to implement the project plan by performing the activities in the plan. On this phase the project head should unify all related areas of the project into a concordant result by using a set of various methods to engage with product owners or product customers. During the project execution the project head uses a wide range of resources including technical, financial, political, communications, and human resource. The goal is to concentrate on integrating all activities and aspects of the project together in order to achieve a successful outcome.

During the executing phase the project head gathers intermediate reports on current project status to analyze all ongoing task changes and variances that occur to the plan. This operational analysis directs controlling measures over the project which take place at all phases of the project. One of the controlling measures over the project is a meeting of all concerned in the project . The project head conducts regular meeting with project team to discuss progress in tasks, project problems and to track the project development.

The project may have a controlling group (reference group) to ensure that a wide range of issues is considered and resolved. The project head will organize controlling group meetings which should be scheduled in the project plan. On these meetings the project head will demonstrate the project progress using a set of various methods, for example, an Area chart in VIP Task Manager or report with details on the project. Regular reporting on the project progress and other metrics should be presented for the controlling committee.

Executing phase of project management

The project head is responsible for implementing the project plan and during the meeting he should provide a list of milestones to the controlling committee. The controlling committee will examine all provided information and it is empowered to suggest weather the project execution is to be continued, halted for a time, or terminated. Appropriate product customers and project stakeholders should be informed of any amendments to the project plan. They can use VIP Task Manager to track the project progress and receive reports on project plan changes by email.

For example, the controlling committee decided that the project execution does not meet time limits defined by the project plan. In order to drive on the project schedule to the project plan the committee suggested to increase task priorities to "Urgent" and re-assign resources from advanced parts of the project to procrastinated ones. Then the project head can set higher task statuses and re-assign resources using Resource List View in VIP Task Manager. Having completed these operations he generates a report in HTML view with new task statuses and assignments listed and sends it by email client software. So project stakeholders will be aware of current project progress and all ongoing amendments to the project plan.
