Building an exhaustive project schedule plays a central role in the activities of a project manager. Schedule building is often considered more than just a function of the manager, but as art. Often project scheduling is considered as a creative process that requires a high level of experience and organizational skills in time management from the manager. She or he can use the following task list to create a schedule:

1. Determine the schedule activities . When a project is structured, the project manager must decompose the lower level of the structure (so called "Work Packages") into schedule activities. It means to take a work package and consider what activities are required to create that package.

2. Place the activities in sequence. This step supposes a sequence and arrangement of the schedule activities by placing them in the order they are planned to happen.

3. Evaluate the resources needed for the activity. On this step the project manager estimates and analyzes which resources and in what amount they will be required to complete each of the activities. This includes evaluating human resources, financial resources, information resources, and equipment. These resources should be selected and assigned for each of the activities prior to defining the duration of each activity.

4. Evaluate time needed for each activity. This step requires the project manager and the team to evaluate how long it will take to complete each of the activities. These evaluations can be figured out by several ways, such as expert judgment, PERT analysis, and other evaluating techniques.

5. Schedule development. This is the step on which the project manager gathers all information from the steps 1, 2, 3 and 4. He uses the sequence of activities, selected resources, and the time duration of each activity in order to optimize the overall project schedule.

6. Track and control the schedule. This is the final step. It is being performed throughout the whole life cycle of the project with the aim to ensure that the work outcomes match the scheduled events in the plan. Control of the schedule requires implementation of progress reports, schedule change supervisory systems, performance management, and various analyses to find out if any additional actions are needed to correct the schedule in accordance with the plan.

Project manager's tasks for creating successful schedule
To complete this task list the project manager will need a task management application which allows to initiate and monitor task progress, make checklists, and create templates. With VIP Task Manager the project manager can build the task list for creating schedules, assign supervisors and track task progress.

For each of the tasks the project manager can attach document as a file or a link to web/file. The system has Calendar which displays task in scheduler view with easy drag-and-drop functionality. Task Tree view allows to build work breakdown structure with task groups and tasks.
