Setting Dependencies between Sub-projects
Sub-projects are smaller, interrelated projects that compose larger projects. If sub-projects belong to one and the same project or programme, they are dependent upon each other in some way. Setting Dependencies between Sub-projects

Recurring Tasks Project Software for small and medium teams

Recurring tasks project is a usual project that has a plenty of repeating items in its plan. The most striking examples of recurring tasks in project are regular team meetings used to update the progress and resolve any incoming issues. Once computer-based tools are used to maintain project schedules they can be used to create a recurring task in project. The most classic example of such a program is MS Project. The function of recurring tasks (Microsoft Project) is simply realized through setting up their parameters in a special interface. Once you set up a group of essential recurrence controls (such as Recurrence Pattern, Range of Recurrence, etc), you get a broken down schedule of all re-occurrences that are supposed to take place within a scope and conditions that you preset. So, in other words recurring tasks in Microsoft Project get displayed as sub-lists of tasks (series of items) representing one task, but making it listed as a layout of all its potential re-occurrences according to an algorithm which you have pre-programmed (every item is recorded along with appropriate time point).

Alternative software to manage recurring tasks & projects (along with difference in setting up task recurrence against MS Project):

Microsoft Project recurring tasks are not a unique function. There are a plenty of effective software products employing the same functionality. One example of such a tool is VIP Task Manager that is easy-to-use software product to effectively work for its users as their own office’s recurring tasks project server (multiuser solution to share information) to plan, control and share a big number of business tasks, including re-occurring tasks across different functions and areas undertaken by the project team. The interface for setting up such tasks is very similar to one that MS Project has.

The difference is the following: once you check a complete status for your recurring tasks (finish a turn of recurrence), a new task gets created automatically (a copy of your recurring task, but with the updated time settings), while the old task’s copy is kept being stored to let you delete or archive it. In other words no layout of potential recurrences is created like in MS Project. Besides this, VIP Task Manager has the following points of difference:

  • It has an inbuilt collaborative capability and a sharable database (there is no need to install any expensive additional server components like you need for MS Project);
  • It enables you assigning multiple working tasks within the team of project co-workers without any additional synchronization (like it can be established between MS Project and MS Outlook), because all you need is to install personal client applications at computers of teammates, so they get automatically synchronized through your LAN or Internet;
