Participants of the project team usually have areas of responsibility and carry out certain roles. In small projects one and the same person can take simultaneously several roles but in big projects roles are usually divided among project participants. So, among the project participants there are particular requirements for roles allocation. Frequently at the beginning of the project roles and functions in the team are not defined. For successful accomplishment of the project and positive development of the team it is important that roles in the project have been assigned and described in advance. Here are some roles which are as a rule stated at any project:

  • Project manager (head)
  • Financial project controller
  • Project customer
  • Project team
  • Project experts (Commission of experts)

prior to the beginning of the project,

Each of these roles has individual tasks and area of responsibilities in the project. If beforehand to define which role is assigned to the project manager or other authorities (for example, to the financial project controller or to the commission of experts), then it is possible to prevent occurrence of issues concerned to indetermination of the project hierarchy. The mission of the project manager is a definition of the project objectives or their coordination with the team. He should be convinced that all members of the team have properly understood the project objectives and can implement them. The project manager should assign forthcoming tasks between participants of the team, supervise their performance, and, in case of project deviations, to take corresponding steps, right down to change the project objectives.

Informing and communications are the extremely important processes in the project. Unfortunately, communications are often not enough concerned. Ostensibly the reason is a shortage of time. Often happens that members of the team are disappointed in the project because they are not insufficiently informed on the project, and the project objective seems to be unattainable. In such a situation the praises can help to interest employees again. There are also other possibilities for motivation:

  • monetary incentives and encouragements
  • creating conditions for personal improvement
  • not to overestimate, but also not to underestimate a complexity of tasks
  • creating conditions for communications with other participants of the project
  • connecting tasks of the project to responsibility and the decision-making right
  • making project tasks various
  • provide employee's workplace with all necessary means of labor
  • acquainting employees of the project with design management
The project team should know what they are exactly expected from and what missions are laid on them. It should be defined while planning stage; otherwise you cannot avoid conflicts and misunderstanding.
