Today any business organization cannot efficiently operate without task management, event scheduling, and real-time collaboration tools. Microsoft Corporation offers a wide range of collaboration tools, including the following:

  • Microsoft Project software is for managing projects, resources, schedules and tasks. It is one of the most popular M icrosoft collaboration solutions. It allows defining critical paths for projects, building Gantt charts, using network diagrams, managing human and financial resources, etc. This advanced platform is designed for managing large and complex projects, but as to small and simple projects its functionality seems to be overkill and inconvenient.
  • Word software is used as a word processing tool to manage documents. It’s a component of Microsoft Office collaboration suite. Many organizations today use this package to create and edit documents.
  • Excel product is a spreadsheet editor which is best for performing all types of calculation. It is convenient for creating work spreadsheets, building various diagrams, managing data, etc.

It is fact that the whole range of solutions can be effective for many organizations. Your company may also use these tools. But when deciding on MS collaboration tools , it is reasonable to consider what investments are required for installing, administering, and maintaining MS Server or online technologies. Real practice shows that these investments are rather large, and not every organization is ready to invest much money in Microsoft products.

While some small and medium-sized businesses use the Microsoft products , other business organizations use alternative enterprise-class solutions that are less expensive, self-sufficient and full-featured. Users of Microsoft collaboration technologies invest a considerable amount of money in SharePoint and Exchange Server, but the rest users invest money in alternative solutions. Non-Microsoft packages allow avoiding or at least minimizing the cost and effort of deploying communication and collaboration infrastructure.
