Resource management solutions

Resource management solutions include different kinds of computer-based systems which can be used for planning and operating the resources (time, money, people, equipment, facilities etc.) required for project performance or usual business activities. There is no need to tell how important correct allocation and management of resources is, because ineffective and short-sighted usage of given time, supplies, funds, assets and technologies can easily lead to serious troubles, including project scope creep and mismatching main project requirements, objectives, budget, target dates and quality.

That’s why qualified and coordinated resource management activities are extremely important for successful accomplishment of any project or task. These activities are elements of resource management process which is a framework helping you to handle resources in an effective manner. Resource management benefits include obtaining a better controllability over their usage so that effectiveness of resource allocation can be definitely evaluated and even a smallest unit of available resources couldn’t be spent without a positive effect. Basically this process includes the following stages with sub-procedures:

  • Planning resources – this is the initial and critically important stage which includes composing a definite plan of how different resources are allocated and coordinated between pieces of work, within project’s timeline, so that every resource can be properly supported by other resources for delivering its products and outputs right on time, on budget and on quality. Resource management procedures on this stage include planning HR, finances, infrastructure, equipment etc.
  • Acquiring (organizing) resources – this is the stage when all the required resources should be engaged into the project’s inventory to be properly organized and integrated into effective infrastructure to fulfil their mission according to plan. Essential procedures on this stage are acquiring equipment, hiring employees, organizing and building infrastructure, activating cash-flows, etc.
  • Maintaining resources – it is ongoing process of controlling resources usage to ensure that everything is going according to plan, so that if some ineffectiveness or defections are detected, the immediate remedial steps can be taken (for example some reserves can be put in operation), so consistency of project performance won’t be disordered.
  • Disposing resources – after the project has been finished, it is necessary to replace resources from the process to change their status and redirect them to other working activities. On this stage the final evaluation of resources usage is performed to define if they were spent properly and to find out ways to better the work attitudes.
