Engineering company renders engineering services by the following key departments:

  • Geotechnical Services Department

Geotechnical Services Department is involved in geotechnical engineering projects. These projects are subsurface explorations, buildings power plants, airports, mines, roads, bridges, wood product facilities, breakwaters, hydro electric dams, navigation locks and a variety of other civil works projects, etc.

  • Civil Engineering Department

Civil Engineering Department assists clients with traditional civil engineering projects, such as transportation and wastewater collection systems, erosion control plans, spill prevention plans, water discharge permit application assistance, storm water pollution prevention plans, air pollution control.

  • Environmental Engineering Department

Environmental Department renders traditional services of environmental engineering: wastewater treatment, waste management and water distribution; permitting and compliance; investigation and cleanup of contaminated soil, sediment and groundwater; environmental assessments; wetland assessment, delineation, restoration and mitigation; geophysical surveys; and other).

  • Land Surveying Department

The implementation phase of any project should is based on survey requirements. The key function of Land Surveying Department is to provide the project with a variety of tools for high quality control that ensure cost effective and scheduled accomplishment of the construction scheme.

Despite the fact that each of these departments has own functions and obligations, their collaborative work creates grounds for better workflow of the engineering company. Whether a customer needs services of geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, environmental engineering or land surveying, the engineering company should have well-organized team of experienced engineers and technicians to meet customers' engineering needs.

With VIP Task Manager the engineering company can build continuous and well-coordinated workflow within departments and between them. For example, the company gets a new order "Horizontal drilling project" from a client. In VIP Task Manager you can create task group "Client 1" and sub-group "Horizontal Drilling Project". The task group "Horizontal Drilling Project" will have three sub-groups that described stages of this project. These sub-groups are:

  • Preliminary planning and assessment
  • Project Development
  • Project Implementation

For each of these project stages you can create and assign tasks to responsible employees. The first stage "Preliminary planning and assessment" is generally assigned to the management of Geotechnical Services Department (Geotechnical Operations Manager and Senior Engineering Technician) so they will be assigned to the task list of the task group "Preliminary planning and assessment".

The second stage is assigned to drilling operators that should make various surveys like "10.Geotechnical Survey", "11.Hydrological Survey", etc. The task list for each drilling operator is to be assigned by department manager. Once a task is assigned to a resource, VIP Task Manager sends notifications. A drilling operator will be notified on assigned tasks and due dates.

During the project implementation all involved resources (managers, employees and clients) will be able to log in the database and track the project status. With the system of permissions and roles the software allows to restrict access to the task lists and task group so that resources will watch only those tasks that are assigned or allowed to be viewed. This feature gives a flexible approach to the project development and implementation as managers can strictly control task performance and resource permission to task lists.

By performing tasks a resource sets task statuses. In VIP Task Manager the engineering company working process may include the following task statuses: Draft, Created, In Progress, Completed, Verified, and Canceled. However, you can add new task statuses that enable the engineering company to customize workflow. For example, you can add task status "Put on hold" and set this status to task "3.Develop concept of the project" if for some reasons you wait for more information from the client.
